The timeless question: should I advertise my business with Google AdWords or Facebook ads?
Honestly, it depends on your industry and your goal.
There is one distinct feature about each advertising platform’s audience, and that is… why are they there?
For Google AdWords, people are generally using Google for a specific purpose. For example, their ac unit went out and so they are looking for a heating and air repair company. It would only be fitting that a heating and air company advertise ac repair with Google AdWords so that their business populates with “ac repair” search results. This ad would be best applicable with a “service” search on Google.
However, people do not generally use Facebook as a search engine. People tend to use Facebook as entertainment (think droning out in front of the TV). Facebook is a great platform for special offers or brand recognition, and certain industries do really well on Facebook, such as a gym that is offering 25% off on their personal training. Running a “Sign-Up” traffic ad on Facebook would be a great choice. People killing time on Facebook LOVE deals and promotions.
The biggest question is, what type of customer are you looking for?
Both Google AdWords and Facebook are pay per click, meaning you are only going to be charged when someone actually clicks on your ad. The only problem with Facebook is, you get a lot of “curiosity” clicks… people who are just droning through Facebook, see your ad and click on it because they are curious or bored. If you’re playing the “numbers game,” then Facebook is the way to go because you will get a lot of clicks and interaction, but poor return on the quality of your conversions or clients, with the exception of advertising a promotional or sale.
We find Google AdWords gets slower results, and does not produce fast numbers, but the quality of your conversions or clients is better and higher. This is because the viewers who clicked on your ad are generally looking for your service; they are on Google for a specific reason.
